Process
"Scratched chalkboard" textures referenced in the rendered model (by Irene Kim).
Samples
Creating texture samples to be later approved by the designer
Using flints theatre black and white paint, experimenting with handmade tools to achieve the scratched effect.
Confiming flints matt glaze samples with the designer
communicating techniques with the team and sampling the fake blood to check for staining.
Marking up with chalk lines and masking tape. Creating a chalky
surface with, rags and a flogger in watered down grey paint.
Dry brushing scratches with handmade tools, including a brush taped to a stick and a wet mop. claw marks by dragging paint on fingers.
Problem solving the overly light colour by rollering a dark wash.

Analysing the model box and locating where the lighter and darker areas blend.
Creating a to-do list and schedule
Samples
Sampling various splattering, smearing and blending techniques, with use of black Idendon and flints theatre black and white. Dry brushing over Idendon
Using the selected samples and CAD drawings to estimate the overall cost of materials.
Costing
Texturing
wet sponges to mark out darker and lighter areas.
Using a flogger to create natural scratched markings. As a 2nd base layer of texture.
Creating textural depth by smearing idendon with pieces of scrap MDF
Using natural sponges to define the lighter areas with a more detailed surface texture.
Large black paint splatters with paint soaked sponges and smearing with scrap MDF. plattering white and black with paint brushes
Confirming final Floor finish with the Designer and glazing with Matt glaze.

referencing the model arches to prep with filler and sanding, a base coat of flints theatre black, measuring out masking tape and drybrushing with white.
Fabric Painting

Scrimmed arches
Mixing various saturated black watery paints to create blended shading on the surface - blended with a brush in a circular motion with water.
Cloth Painting

Stretching and nailing the cloth to the floor. Sampling on smaller pieces with saturated Rosco paint water.
Soaking the cloth by throwing buckets of paint water over it, saturating it more in various areas. Creating a splash barrier between other sets of pieces.
After 2 days of drying, fold up for transportation.

Distressing

Pub carpet was distressed with buckets of raw umber saturated water in buckets. Blended with wire brushes.
cut to size with carpet cutters.

Using a lightly saturated Raw Sienna stain to mark out the heights of the burnt areas.
Defining the burnt areas with a deep saturated Rosco Cigar Brown paint stain.
Using the airbrush to blend the flame markings.

Dividing tasks in a large group project. Using box cutters to carve the top centre piece from polystyrene and using contact adhesive Evo-stick to fix it together.
Sealing with white Idendon, painting with Emulsion paint.

Reassembling a mannequin with scrap wood and drilled screws. fitting him with appropriate clothing and prepping entirely with PVA. Applying Idendon to seal the shape. Painting basecoat with brown emulsion. Dry brushing over the texture with flints gold powder mixed with button polish.
